The idea of a trip of 49 days and only 12,500 kilometers, from South Africa to England would be appropriate for a Range Rover, perhaps. But a trio of Mini Cooper S with minor modifications is that they were the stars this time, passing through 10 countries including Botswana, Egypt and Sudan!
To be able to make the trip on questionable (or non-existent) roads, MINI prepared the trolleys by raising their height to 230 mm, reworking the shock absorbers and using steel wheels with tougher tires. Rear seats and internal trim have been removed to allow more space for spare tires, along with food and some things for drivers to sleep in peace.
The trip began on March 8 in Johannesburg and ended at the MINI factory in Oxford.
